Policy - Landcare Rate Rebate  Printer Friendly

Background
Hindmarsh Shire has very little remnant native vegetation left on private property. In an endeavour to encourage landholders to preserve remnants on their properties, Council established a Rate Rebate Scheme for properties with fenced native vegetation, providing the owners signed a Management Agreement.

The Rates Rebates Program was established in 2000 using funding from the National Heritage Trust. Since 2001 the rebates have been fully funded by Council.

Due to difficulties working within the present rebate parameters an investigation into other methods of running the program was made.

Policy
That;

a) all properties with a total Conservation Covenant receive a 75% rate rebate;

b) all properties with a partial Conservation Covenant or a Landcare Management Agreement receive a flat rebate of $5.00 per hectare for the affected area with a minimum rebate of $50.00 and a maximum of $250.00 providing the rebate does not exceed 75% of the rate payable;

c) no longer reclassify properties back to the general rate upon accepting them under the Landcare Rebate Scheme; and

d) all properties to be reviewed at least once every four years by the Landcare Officer.
