Hindmarsh Shire Council has developed a Heatwave Plan for the Hindmarsh Shire municipality. Central to this plan is the Department of Health state-wide Heat Health Alert System 2012-2013 which notifies councils, hospitals and health and community service providers of forecast heatwave conditions which are likely to affect human health.

The Department of Helath website has a number of ways to prepare for an keep cool during heatwave. The current Heatwave Plan for Victoria is available on the Department of Health website.
