Things to do
Whether you have just popped over for a short visit, are here for a little while or have come to stay, Hindmarsh Shire is sure to have something to offer.

Hindmarsh Shire has an abundance of sporting activities available year round including football, netball, cricket, tennis, bowls, golf, rowing, swimming, athletics and basketball. More detailed information on the sporting clubs and community groups active in the Shire can be found in the Community Directory.

The Shire boasts stunning, unspoiled wilderness areas and is the perfect getaway location for any nature lover. Visit our spectacular Little and Big Desert, alive with native animals and birdlife, including the endangered malleefowl. Or explore the breathtaking Wyperfeld National Park. In spring the desert provides an astounding display of wildflowers, including a great variety of ground orchids.

Lake Hindmarsh and Lake Albacutya are also well worth a visit, offering an amazing experience for any nature lover and bush walker.

With the recent rains during the summer period, Lake Hindmarsh is full. At 4 mile beach, there are 16 powered sites available - however bookings are not taken. It is simply a case of first in best dressed. Daily Fees – Powered Site $12.50, unpowered $9. Weekly Fees – Powered $75, unpowered $54.

History enthusiasts can discover our Koori culture at Ebenezer Mission, or relive the pioneering days at the Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum at Jeparit. The Pioneer Museum has a remarkable collection of farming history with millions of dollars of vintage farming equipment, old jails and turn of the century school houses and shops. Old-time splendour awaits visitors at Rainbow’s Yurunga Homestead (temporarily closed as of 23 December 2015, opening time to be confirmed) and the Historical Museum at Nhill, or have a look at the Old Court House and unique Dimboola Banner Print Museum at Dimboola.

Places for visitors to stay range from the comfort of motels to basic bush camping.
