Home>Council Prepared for Emergencies
| The Hindmarsh Shire Council is reminding residents that Council’s emergency management plan is ready to go should we receive warning advice from the State Government.
Hindmarsh Shire Council’s Municipal Recovery Manager, Peter Smith, said the community could rest assured that emergency management procedures were well tested and ready to kick into action if a disaster were to occur.
“Our plans are very thorough and will provide the community with all the information they need should a bushfire occur in our region”.
“More information would be given at the time in regards to community relief centres, as this would be dependant on the location of the fire and many other factors”, Mr Smith said.
Copies of Council’s emergency management and municipal prevention plans are available from customer services centres in Nhill, Dimboola, Rainbow and Jeparit and on the Council website www.hindmarsh.vic.gov.au
Mr. Smith said that at a debriefing session at the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee Meeting at Nhill on 2 March, 2009, the Committee agreed to write to Powercor, insisting on a tougher regime for inspecting and replacing power poles in the area as a fire on the Nhill Jeparit Road on 7 February, 2009 was caused by a white ant infested power pole. Luckily the fire terminated at a fallow paddock that happened to be in the path of the fire on that dreadful day, Mr. Smith added.
