News>Hindmarsh Shire Nhill Office Accommodation
Council has made a decision to redevelop its existing office in Nhill. In early 2009, Council acknowledged that it had outgrown the existing office and the building was no longer fit for purpose. The project will involve the redevelopment of the existing building to incorporate new public spaces including vastly improved customer service areas and meeting spaces.

| Hindmarsh Shire Council offices are set to undergo a substantial refurbishment. At its meeting on 21 July 2010 Council adopted a corporate accommodation study prepared by consultancy company BurnsBridge Sweett and resolved unanimously to begin planning for an improved customer service centre in Nhill. The existing office building in Nhill no longer has the capacity to support the services Council provides. In early 2009 Council acknowledged that the Nhill office, built in the 1960s, almost half a century on was no longer fit for purpose. This inital report was to assess the current offices, compare them with current and future needs, identify issues, and prepare strategies to address these. The study confirmed that the building has reached the end of its useful functional life and recommended a substantial refurbishment including improved customer service areas, meeting spaces and additional office accommodation.
At the April 2011 meeting, Council appointed Melbourne based architect k20 to undertake detailed design of the proposed Shire office redevelopment. Detailed design is now complete, with plans progressing to the stage of tenders being submitted.
The proposed final plans and associated tender has yet to be considered by Council. Therefore until a tender has been awarded the plans may be subject to change. | |
