Hindmarsh Shire Council is thrilled to announce the visit of the Governor of Victoria, The Honourable Alex Chernov AC QC and Mrs Elizabeth Chernov on May 9 and 10.

The visit will commence with a tour of Luv a Duck’s operations in Nhill on Wednesday afternoon, followed by a visit to the Nhill Hospital to meet with staff and patients.

On Thursday the Governor will be taken on a tour of the Shire commencing with a visit to Dimboola Memorial Secondary College to inspect the new facilities and meet staff and students. From there, the party will view the Nine Creeks Walking and Bicycle Track which has been recently established with support from Regional Development Victoria and the MacPherson Smith Community Alliance.

The next official stop will be at the Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum in Jeparit where the Governor and Mrs Chernov will be shown one of Australia’s largest collections of vintage farm machinery and household items. From there, the official party will travel to Rainbow for lunch followed by a tour of the new facilities at the co-located Rainbow Primary School and Secondary College.

The tour will end with an official civic reception at the Nhill Memorial Community Centre to mingle with invited guests prior to departing for Mildura.

Hindmarsh Shire Mayor, Cr Cliff Unger, said, "We are absolutely delighted to host the Governor and Mrs Chernov, and to provide them with good old-fashioned country hospitality and an opportunity to meet local people". "The Governor will see first-hand some of the Shire’s recently completed projects, and experience some of the best tourism features that Victoria has to offer, including the Little Desert Nature Lodge, Lake Hindmarsh, and Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum". The visit will also give some of the Shire’s young leaders and students an opportunity to meet and greet the Governor and Mrs Chernov.
