Hindmarsh Shire Council was delighted to receive notification yesterday, Wednesday 19 September, that it has been selected to host the 2014 Rural Councils Victoria Rural Summit.
Hindmarsh was selected over entries from Macedon Ranges Shire Council, Swan Hill Rural City Council and Moira Shire Council.
Cr Cliff Unger, Mayor Hindmarsh Shire Council said, "This is fantastic news for Hindmarsh and will provide us the opportunity to showcase the region to Council representatives from across Victoria. The first Rural Summit was held in Birchip a number of years ago and has since been held in Lockington, Maffra, Rutherglen and Port Fairy. The 2013 event will be in Lakes Entrance".
He added, "The Summits typically attract 200 to 250 delegates, so it will provide a major economic boost to the Hindmarsh region as all events, accommodation and catering will be provided by businesses and organisations from within the Shire".
Although a firm date has not been established, the Summit will probably be held in April or May 2014 over two days and two evenings, with key note addresses from speakers on issues that relate to rural communities and councils. The Summit will also provide an opportunity for tours to local places of interest to be conducted.
Cr Unger concluded, "Now that Hindmarsh has been selected as the host of the 2014 Summit, Council staff will be working closely with Rural Councils Victoria personnel to select venues and ensure that delegates will be treated to an informative, entertaining and rewarding Summit".
