Hindmarsh Shire Council held its Annual Statutory Meeting on Wednesday 9 November 2022 at the Nhill Memorial Community Centre. At this meeting, Councillors elected the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to represent Hindmarsh Shire for the next 12 months.

Congratulations to Cr Brett Ireland who was elected Mayor by his fellow Councillors.

Cr Ireland said, “It is a little surreal to be sitting in this position. Two years ago, I was trimming trees at the golf club, cooking community BBQ’s and doing what you do for your community like many other people in our shire. I don't see the role of Councillor as so much a position of importance but an opportunity to make my community a better place.”

He continued, “I intend to perform the role of Mayor to my best ability, engage the community with a lot of information, to meet as many people in our shire as possible and listen to them.”

“I aspire to maintain the unity and cohesion that we have as a council and continue to implement our 4-year council plan. I will be spoilt by being able to deliver some wonderful projects council have been working tirelessly on over the next 12 months. I offer approachability, an unbiased view, honesty, and I am sure my fellow councillors will attest, a penchant for supplying the community with information.”

Following the election of the Mayor, the election of the Deputy Mayor was conducted where Cr Melanie Albrecht was elected for the next 12 months. Congratulations Cr Albrecht.

Council also appointed delegates to Council’s advisory committees and community asset committees, as well as external organisations.
