Australia Day, 26 January, is the day to reflect on what it means to be Australian, to celebrate contemporart Australia and to acknowledge our history. Every year, Hindmarsh Shire Council, along with local committees and community groups, hosts an event in Nhill, Dimboola, Jeparit and Rainbow.

The Australia Day Committee is monitoring the COVID-19 situation, and due to restrictions and the uncertain nature of the pandemic, celebrations in 2022 will look different to past years. How the region will acknowledge our Award winners is yet to be decided, however the Australia Day Committees are commitred to recognising and celebrating out 'local legends' in some way.

More information on this will come as the date approaches.

The Australia Day Awards recognise outstanding community service to the Hindmarsh Shire community during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the community over a number of years. The awards are provided by the Australia Day Committee (Victoria) and are administered by Local Government Authorities throughout Australia
