Project Platypus are holding a Bird Monitoring Workshop.

Join them for a hands-on workshop in the heart of the Little Desert, where you'll develop practical skills in bird monitoring within fire-affected landscapes.

Saturday 29 August 2026
10:00am - 2:00pm
Nhill Neighbourhood House Learning Centre

Participants will learn about industry-recognised methodologies from ornithologist Jonathan Starks (Hindmarsh Shire Council’s Landcare Facilitator) and ecologist Dr. Elia Pirtle over the course of an informative presentation at the Nhill Learning Centre. You'll also learn about Bird Permanent Unit Count Stations (PUCS) and how we are using them as part of our Fire Recovery Project.

Following the presentation and a complimentary lunch, participants are invited to take part in a practical monitoring demonstration at the Keith Hateley Nature Reserve (a 20 min drive from the Nhill Learning Centre) to see how birds are responding to the most recent bushfires in the area.
