Birdwatching
There are some amazing places to go birdwatching in the Hindmarsh Shire. Little Desert National Park, the Wimmera River, Lake Hindmarsh and Lake Albacutya (even when dry) attract birdwatchers from across Australia, offering some of the best birdwatching sites in the state.
Over 230 bird species have been recorded in the Shire.
Hindmarsh Shire is famous for the endangered and unique Lowan, or Malleefowl. They are shy birds, but you may catch a glimpse of them, or one of their distinctive mounds along a bushwalk through the Little Desert.
