The Wimmera River, Lake Hindmarsh and Lake Albacutya (even when dry), and the Little Desert attract birdwatchers from across Australia offering some of the best birdwatching sites in the state. Over 200 bird species have been recorded in the Little Desert alone.
 
Hindmarsh is famous for the endangered and unique Malleefowl. They are shy, but you may catch a glimpse of them, or one of their distinctive mounds along a bushwalk through the Little Desert.
