Council Adopts Public Transparency Policy
Published on 30 July 2026
Hindmarsh Shire Council has adopted an updated Public Transparency Policy, reinforcing its commitment to open, accountable, and transparent decision-making.
The Policy has been reviewed to ensure it continues to meet the requirements of the Local Government Act 2020 and reflects best practice in making Council information accessible to the community. The updated Policy provides clearer guidance on how Council information is made available and supports meaningful community participation in local government.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay, said transparency is fundamental to building trust between Council and the community. "Council is committed to being open, clear and accountable in the way we make decisions and share information with our communities. This updated Policy helps ensure anyone can access information about Council activities, decisions and performance in a consistent and transparent way."
The draft Policy was available for public consultation from 25 June to 17 July 2026, with no submissions received. Following the review and consultation process, Council formally adopted the Policy at the Council meeting on 29 July 2026.
This Policy can be found on the Governance and Transparency section of Council’s website (under the ‘Public Transparency Policy’ tab). Visit www.hindmarsh.vic.gov.au/governance-and-transparency.
