Funding Application for Design and Planning for Jeparit Weir
Published on 30 July 2026
Hindmarsh Shire Council has submitted a funding application for $820,000 under the Australian Government’s Disaster Ready Fund (DRF) for Detailed Design and Planning of the Jeparit Weir.
The project seeks funding to complete detailed designs, technical investigations, approvals, risk assessment, cost estimates, and implementation planning required to progress the future replacement of the Jeparit Weir. The application outlines that the project will improve flood management, reduce future flood damage risk, and support a shovel-ready pathway for future construction.
If successful with this funding application, it will put the project one step closer towards the goal of replacing the Jeparit Weir which has been deemed that it is at its end of life and requires full replacement.
The application was strongly supported by Emergency Management Victoria, Wimmera Catchment Management Authority, and the Wimmera Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee, and Council would like to acknowledge and thank these bodies for their involvement, support, and contribution to progress this important project.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said “The Jeparit Weir is a critical community asset that has reached the end of its service life. Securing funding for detailed design and planning will bring us closer to delivering a long-term solution that improves flood resilience and safeguards the community. We appreciate the strong support of our project partners in progressing this important initiative”.
