Published on 14 May 2021

Hindmarsh Shire Council will host a series of budget drop in sessions for community members to ask questions on the 2021/2022 draft budget incorporating the revenue and rating plan.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said “Our draft budget contains many exciting initiatives for 2021/2022. We encourage the community to review the draft budget and come along to a drop in session to ask any questions they have on the budget.”

Drop in Sessions will be held in each of the four towns as follows:

  • Jeparit Customer Service Centre, Roy Street Tuesday 1 June 2021, 5:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Nhill Memorial Community Centre, Nelson Street Thursday 3 June 2021, 5:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Rainbow MECCA Small Meeting Room, Federal Street Tuesday 8 June 2021, 5:00pm – 6:00pm
  • Dimboola Library & Customer Service Centre, Lloyd Street Wednesday 9 June 2021, 5:00pm – 6:00pm

The draft 2021/2022 has been developed to balance the retention of existing community service levels, maintenance and renewal of assets, and new initiatives to improve the amenity and make Hindmarsh a better place to live.

The budget contains funding for the construction of a dual lane Albacutya Bridge and associated Albacutya road widening, upgrades to the Nhill Library, along with community infrastructure projects through the Local Roads Community Infrastructure Program round 2.

With international tourism out of the picture in the foreseeable future, funding has been allocated to support the Rainbow Desert Enduro and Peter Taylor Memorial Barefoot Tournament in Dimboola. Riverside Holiday Park in Dimboola has an allocation for ensuite updates and there is also an allocation for the implementation of initiatives from the Nhill Streetscape Masterplan.

The budget also contains infrastructure works including kerb and channel works in Nhill and Jeparit, with sealed road construction works in excess of $1.066m budgeted. Footpath works will also completed in Rainbow, Dimboola, Jeparit and Nhill.

Hindmarsh Shire Council CEO, Mr Greg Wood said “we are pleased to present the draft 2021/2022 budget to the Hindmarsh community and look forward to implementing the many programs and initiatives.”
