Community Input Needed – Youth Strategy 2025-2029
Published on 22 August 2025
Hindmarsh Shire Council is reviewing our current Youth Strategy for 2021 – 2025 and is seeking input from both young people ages 12-24 who are living, learning and/or working in Hindmarsh Shire as well as stakeholders that are in direct contact with young people to inform and guide the development of the 2025 – 2029 Youth Strategy.
The feedback collected will guide Council to provide the best outcome for young people over the next four years. Council would like to gain further insight into the six themes and whether they still resonate with young people across the Shire. The ultimate objective of this review is to ensure our strategy is inclusive, representative and positively benefits young people in Hindmarsh.
There are six key themes to our Youth Strategy:
- Theme 1: Ensure that Hindmarsh Shire Council’s processes and spaces welcome, involve and empower young people.
- Theme 2: Build partnerships with community groups and organisations to expand the potential of youth services.
- Theme 3: Create a community that is future-safe, ensuring young people have opportunities to live, learn, earn and contribute to their community.
- Theme 4: Understand and address the systemic and structural barriers to inclusion, participation and representation.
- Theme 5: Facilitate spaces and events that create opportunities for connection, expression and community.
- Theme 6: Advocate for young people to be able to access the health, wellbeing and support services they need.
Hindmarsh Shire Council, Mayor Cr Ron Ismay said “The 2025 - 2029 Hindmarsh Youth Strategy will establish Council’s plan for young people across the shire for the next four years. This is your chance to inform Council on your thoughts, ideas, and insight about the current youth strategy and how we can improve.”
Councillor Ismay added, “To assist with the collation of information to establish the basis of the Youth Strategy, we encourage residents from the targeted groups to complete a community-based survey that will provide Council with valuable information to develop a 2025 – 2029 Youth strategy”.
You can find the link to the survey on the Have Your Say Hindmarsh website at – www.haveyoursay.hindmarsh.vic.gov.au/youth-strategy-2025-2029. This survey closes 11:59pm on Sunday 14 September 2025.
