At the Council Meeting held on Wednesday 29 July 2026, Hindmarsh Shire Councils adopted its Council Plan Actions for 2026/2027.

These set out the key projects and priorities Council will focus on delivering over the coming financial year, based on the broader goals in the Council Plan 2025-2029 and Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan. Informed by community feedback and Council planning, the Actions provide a practical roadmap to improve services, facilities, and opportunities for residents while ensuring Council remains responsive and focused on future needs.

Key actions for 2026/2027 include advocating for the replacement of the Jeparit Weir, supporting local business and tourism opportunities, improving community facilities and public spaces, maintaining and renewing roads and infrastructure, delivering community wellbeing initiatives, and strengthening partnerships that support long-term growth across the Shire. These actions help ensure Hindmarsh remains a great place to live, work, visit and invest.

In addition to the specific actions outlined, four overarching priorities have been identified as guiding principles that underpin all areas of Council’s work. These are:

  • Closing the loop with the community
  • Using plain English (reducing jargon)
  • Making processes easier and more consistent
  • Clearly demonstrating outcomes and value

Before Council adopted the Actions, deliberative community engagement was undertaken, with the draft set of Council Plan Actions 2026/2027 then made available for consultative feedback during the period 4 June 2026 to 2 July 2026. Based on the feedback, some new actions were added around sport and active recreation, environmental management, and business support.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said “I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to contribute through community consultation activities and the Community Panel. Your feedback has helped shape these priorities and ensure Council is focusing on the projects, services, and advocacy that matter most to our community.”
