Events in Hindmarsh for Victorian Seniors Festival

Hindmarsh Shire Council is holding a variety of events and activities throughout October 2025 in celebration of the Victorian Seniors Festival.

The Victorian Seniors Festival is a major state-wide festival for and involving seniors, inviting older Victorians to come together, discover new interests, and celebrate. This year’s theme is “Connect, Create, celebrate”.

What is happening in Hindmarsh?

 

Seniors Concert

Join us for a free Seniors Concert featuring Melissa Langton who will be performing songs of Petula Clark. This event will be held on Thursday 9 October 2025 at the Nhill Memorial Community Centre. The doors will open from 12:30pm with the concert commencing at 1:00pm. Buses will be available from Rainbow, Jeparit and Dimboola.

Although this is a free event, tickets are essential! Call us today for a ticket and to book your seat on the bus or pop into any of our Customer Service Centres and Libraries.

Don’t leave it until the last minute to book your ticket as they usually book out quickly.

Men’s Day Tour

Veterans, retirees, members of Men’s Shed and those from multi-faith communities or diverse cultures are invited to a free tour exploring the north of Hindmarsh Shire. The Men’s Day Tour will be held on Tuesday 28 October 2025. Some of the sights will include the Pella Church, Albacutya Silo, Rainbow Silo, Jeparit Memorial Hall, and Jeparit Riverside Precinct and more.

See the bus departure times below:

  • Nhill Information Centre – departing at 8:30am
  • Dimboola Library – departing at 9:00am
  • Rainbow Library – departing at 9:00am

The tour starting point will be at the Jeparit Library, departing at 9:30am.  Lunch will be provided on the day. Bookings are required, please call us on 03 5391 4444 to secure your place.

Fire Readiness Information Evenings with CFA

Hindmarsh Shire Council has partnered with the CFA to deliver fire readiness information sessions across the Shire. Topics covered will be the Australian Fire Danger Rating system, Total Fire Ban days and the Fire Danger period, VicEmergency, and warnings.

Sessions are open to everyone and will be held on the following days:

  • Tuesday 7 October 2025 – Nhill Memorial Community Centre, 7:00pm
  • Thursday 9 October 2025 – Dimboola Old Shire Hall, 7:00pm
  • Tuesday 14 October 2025 – Jeparit Memorial Hall, 7:00pm
  • Thursday 16 October 2025 – Rainbow MECCA Supper Room, 7:00pm

A sausage sizzle will be provided at 6:30pm before each session.

Fire Readiness Information Sessions for Seniors

There will be special Fire Readiness Sessions for Seniors during Cuppa Connections in our libraries. Hindmarsh Shire Council Staff will be available to assist attendees to download the Vic Emergency App.

Sessions will be held:

  • Wednesday 1 October 2025 – Jeparit Library, 10:00am,
  • Wednesday 1 October 2025 – Rainbow Library, 2:00pm
  • Thursday 2 October 2025 – Nhill Library, 10:00am
  • Thursday 23 October 2025 – Dimboola Old Shire Hall, 10:00am

Light refreshments will be provided.

Fire Readiness – Karen Community Information Session

Hindmarsh Shire Council has partnered with the CFA to deliver a fire readiness information session for the Karen community on Thursday 30 October 2025 from 5:00pm at the Nhill Memorial Community Centre.

Topics covered will be the Australian Fire Danger Rating system, Total Fire ban days and the Fire Danger period, Vic emergency and warnings.

Light refreshments provided and an interpreter will present.

Planning Ahead Sessions with Seniors Rights Victoria

Hindmarsh Shire Council has partnered with Seniors Rights Victoria to present planning ahead sessions with topics including powers of attorney, medical treatment decisions, and advanced care planning.

These sessions will be held on Monday 20 October 2025 at the following locations:

  • Nhill Council Chambers, 10:00am
  • Jeparit Memorial Hall, 12:30pm
  • Dimboola Old Shire Hall, 3:00pm

Light refreshments will be provided. This is a FREE event, but bookings are essential. Call us on 03 5391 4444 to book your spot.

Nhill Cinema Classic Movie Screening

Join us at the Nhill Memorial Community Centre on Tuesday 14 October 2025 for a FREE Classic Movie screening of ‘Crackerjack’.

Morning tea is served at 10:00am with the movie screening commencing from 10:30am.

Environmental Health Information Sessions

Hindmarsh Shire Council’s Environmental Health Officers will be holding informal Question and Answer sessions in each of the Hindmarsh Shire libraries.

Topics that may be covered include wastewater, air quality/woodfires, pest control, septic maintenance, food hygiene, Australian Food Safety Standards, interpreting food labels, and water quality. Environmental Health Officers will be able to provide assistance and source information if required.

Sessions will be held on:

  • Wednesday 8 October 2025 – Jeparit Library, 10:00am
  • Wednesday 8 October 2025 – Rainbow Library, 2:00pm
  • Wednesday 15 October 2025 – Nhill Library, 10:00am
  • Wednesday 15 October 2025 – Dimboola Community Civic Centre Hub, 2:00pm

Refreshments will be provided.

Ongoing Library Activities

Along with the events listed above, we have a variety of activities that we host on an ongoing basis in our Hindmarsh Shire Libraries. These activities include:

  • Rainbow Crochet Corner
  • Dimboola Book Chat
  • Weekly Cuppa Connections
  • Writing Hour at the Nhill Library
  • Jigsaw Club
  • Get Creative at the Nhill Library

 

Booklets containing all activities will be available to pick up at all Hindmarsh Shire Customer Service Centres and Libraries.
