Hindmarsh Shire Council has submitted a funding application under the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSIF) to upgrade facilities at the Nhill Bowling Club. The proposed project has an estimated total value of $826,691, comprising a funding request of $500,000 from LSIF and a cash contribution of $326,691 from the Nhill Bowling Club. Council will support the project through the provision of in-kind project management and grant administration services.

This project has been driven by the Nhill Bowling Club who approached Council in 2025 with a proposal to seek funding for the upgrade of facilities at the Club’s venue in Davis Avenue, Nhill. The Club has been accruing funds for much needed upgrades over the past several years.

The proposed works include the upgrade of two bowling greens, construction of a new all abilities access ramp to the greens, improvements to the irrigation system and associated services, and upgrades to the male and female amenities to provide all-abilities accessible facilities.

Council worked with the Club to submit a funding application under the 2025/2026 LSIF, which they were informed in early 2026 that the application was unsuccessful. After seeking feedback from the funding body, Council and the Nhill Bowling Club have again worked together to strengthen the funding application for the 2026/2027 LSIF.

If the funding application is successful, Council’s Project Management Office will work with the Nhill Bowling Club to deliver the project in-line with the requirements of funding agreement.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said “Having already committed more than $300,000 of its own funds, the Nhill Bowling Club has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to its members and the broader community. We are proud to support this funding application and the positive outcomes it will deliver for Nhill.”.
