Hindmarsh Shire Council has received funding to facilitate a subsidised cat desexing program through the Victorian State Government’s Animal Welfare Grants Program (Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions). The program will enable eligible residents of Hindmarsh to access cat desexing procedures for $50, and free microchipping, at participating local clinics.

By increasing the number of desexed cats across the Shire, Council hopes to further protect native species from feral cats, reduce roaming and decrease the numbers of unwanted animals surrendered to Council and local rescue groups.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Brett Ireland said “Council is excited to have received funding from the Victorian State Government to allow for subsidised cat desexing and free microchipping. I encourage eligible community members to submit an application when the program opens.”

Applications for the program will open on 17 February 2023 at 9:00am. Please note that funding is strictly limited, and submitting an application does not guarantee access to the program. Applications will be assessed as they are received.
