Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council 2024 Nominations Open

Have you always wanted to do more for the people around you? Want to create change, or make a difference in your community? Then this is the perfect opportunity for you.  Hindmarsh Shire Council is excited to announce that nomination for the 2024 Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council are now open.

Projects
Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council works to put together FreeZA events such as live music events, outdoor cinemas, pool parties, skate competitions and practical training opportunities – they have undertaken Teen Mental Health First Aid and are currently planning a Black-tie formal.  They also work on Community projects like murals and mental health awareness.  The Youth Council makes sure that young people are seen and heard.

History
The Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council was established in May 2015 and compromises on 12 members, plus the recipient of Hindmarsh Shire Council’s Youth of the Year.  All youth council applicants must live, work, or attend school within the Hindmarsh Shire municipality.

Applications for the 2024 Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council close at 5:00pm on Friday 19 January 2024.  Once we have received your application, Hindmarsh Shire Councillors will conduct interviews prior to recommending to Council. 

Hindmarsh Shire Youth Councillors will be presented with their certificates and badges in early 2024 and will attend a Leadership Retreat shortly after.

2023 Hindmarsh Shire Youth Councillor, Liam Campbell said “I joined Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council because I want to give back to a community that has given heaps to me, and I want to make their everyday lives the best it can be”.

A 2023 Youth Council Mentor, Alissa Trenery also said, “This will be my third year with Youth Council - I kept coming back as it’s a friendly environment and we get to express our ideas and help with events”.

The Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council is currently supported by funding from Hindmarsh Shire Council, the State Governments FreeZa funding, the State Governments Engage! Funding, and FRRR ABC Heywire Funding – which all allow us to plan and implement activities and training relevant to youth in Hindmarsh.
