Jeparit Memorial Hall Centenary Celebrations
Published on 30 May 2025
Tuesday 27 May 2025 was a significant milestone for the community of Jeparit as it marked the centenary of the official opening of the Jeparit Soldier’s and Citizen’s Memorial Hall on Tuesday 27 May 1925. Construction of the building began in 1924 following the commencement of planning in 1922.
The original concept for the building was considered unusual at the time as it was to provide a recreational venue for returned soldiers, a place for local community celebrations, and the main offices for the then Shire of Dimboola.
Hindmarsh Shire Council, with support from various Jeparit community organisations will be holding a community event to commemorate the centenary on Friday 6 June 2025 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the Jeparit Memorial Hall located at 10 – 12 Roy Street, Jeparit.
Local historian Craige Proctor will provide a presentation on the history of the hall and will be joined by other speakers including current Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay, who is in a unique position in that he also served as a Councillor and President for the Shire of Dimboola.
The Jeparit Historical Society and the former Council Chambers will be open for viewing during the celebrations.
Cr Ismay said, “I encourage current and former residents of Jeparit to attend the celebrations as I am sure there will be plenty of reminiscing to be done and it will be a great opportunity to catch up with old friends.”
