Save the date: So Last Century Midsumma event comes to Jeparit

Hindmarsh Pride Committee is inviting the community to save the date for So Last Century - a Number 96 and Dynasty Themed Gala Night, a vibrant celebration for everyone around pride, history, and regional storytelling to be held in Jeparit as part of the 2027 Midsumma Festival.

The event will bring the style and energy of the 1970s and 1980s to Jeparit, pairing a gala evening with a short documentary featuring stories from LGBTQIA+ people who lived in the Wimmera during that period. Guests will be encouraged to dress for the era and enjoy entertainment led by Wanda, Queen of the Desert. The short documentary will share local lived experiences and reflect on the social changes that shaped identity, visibility and wellbeing.

Save the date: Jeparit, Saturday 30 January 2027. Event details will be announced soon.

This project has been fully funded through grants received from West Wimmera Health Service through their Community Health and Wellbeing Grants Program and the Victorian Government’s Victoria Pride Regional Activation Program, helping bring this inclusive regional event and storytelling project to life.

Hindmarsh Pride Committee Chairperson Rhys said, “So Last Century will be a celebration for everyone, while also giving regional LGBTQIA+ community members the opportunity to share stories that deserve to be seen and heard.”

“We encourage people from Jeparit, across Hindmarsh and throughout the Wimmera to save the date and join us for a memorable night of connection, self-expression and regional pride.”

People with LGBTQIA+ lived experience in the Wimmera during the 1970s and 1980s who are interested in participating in the short documentary are encouraged to contact Rhys, Chairperson of Hindmarsh Pride Committee, through Hindmarsh Shire Council on 03 5391 4444 or info@hindmarsh.vic.gov.au. “So Last Century” has been supported through the Regional Activation Program as part of Victoria’s Pride, a Victorian State Government initiative delivered by Midsumma.
