Hindmarsh Shire Council owns a community bus that is available to the community for hire. All community groups and individuals that hire the Hindmarsh Shire Community Bus have a shared responsibility to ensure the safe operation of the bus. 

Who can hire the bus? 
Both community groups & private individuals can book the bus. 

How many people fit on the bus? 
The community bus seats 12, including the driver. (Please note: capacity limits may reduce depending on COVID-19 restrictions)

What are the costs? 

  • Not for Profit Community Groups: $0.55/km plus fuel 
  • Private Hire: $1.35/km plus fuel 

Booking the community bus: 

  1. Contact the Customer Service team to check availability & schedule bookings - this can be done via email info@hindmarsh.vic.gov.au, calling 03 5391 4444 or attending the Nhill office in person.
  2. Collect the bus at the agreed time: pick up keys, fill out Driver Declaration form (you will need to bring your drivers licence) and read and accept the Conditions of Use.
  3. Enjoy the use of the community bus for your event.
  4. Deliver the community bus back to Council and pay for your kilometres. Please note that when returning the bus after use it must be filled with diesel, cleaned and all rubbish removed.

Fire Extinguisher: Behind passenger seat, to the left of the rear sliding door entry
Hazard Lights: Directly under the radio / CD Player
