Hindmarsh Shire Libraries has been successful with its funding application through the Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, with funding recipients announced in November 2025.

The Living Libraries Infrastructure Program (LLIP) is a Victorian Government initiative providing grants for upgrading public library facilities and supports diverse projects, from minor refurbishments to major builds.

In this recent round, Hindmarsh Shire Libraries applied for funding to install two large shade sails in the Dimboola Library courtyard (the open space between the Old Shire Hall that fronts Lloyd Street and the Library hub building), as well as some internal blinds on the west-facing windows of the library.

Council is pleased to report that the internal blinds have already been fitted and are in use, immediately improving the indoor library space by protecting our books from the harsh morning sun and helping keep the space cool in the warmer weather.

Construction of the shade sail structures is underway, and Council will continue to provide updates on how the installation is progressing through our social media pages. Council will be required to restrict access to this part of the Library hub space whilst construction is underway, but this will take place most likely on a Monday (when the Library is already closed), and access to the public toilets at the rear of the gardens will still be possible by entering from the north side of the library building, beside Dimboola Pottery.

Hindmarsh Shire Libraries are excited to create a more useable, sun-safe outdoor space at our Dimboola Library, allowing activities to take place safely outdoors and increasing public usage opportunities outside of the library operating hours.
