Hindmarsh Round One Community Action Grants Awarded

At its meeting on Wednesday 24 November 2021, Hindmarsh Shire Council awarded local community organisations grants from the first round of the Community Action Grants program for the 2021/2022 financial year. The Community Action Grants program now consists of three categories; Small equipment allows community organisations to apply for up to $1,000 for the purchase of items and equipment, Events allows up to $500 for the running of community events, and community assistance offers up to $1,000 for needs not covered in the first two categories.

Council will provide funding to fifteen local community groups totalling $13,956.85 across the three categories.

Community Assistance recipients included:

• Hindmarsh Police Citizens Youth Club received $1,000 towards insurance costs and the purchase of COVID-19 safety items to enable the reopening of their gym in Jeparit.

• Nhill-Dimboola Band received $1,000 towards the cost of hiring St. Andrews Hall, Dimboola for their regular practice sessions.

Events recipients included:

• Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre received $500 for advertising for their upcoming ‘Historic Engineering Expo’ event at the Nhill Aerodrome.

Small Equipment recipients included:

• Antwerp Hall Committee received $1,000 to assist with the upgrade of their meeting room and kitchen.
• Dimboola Ski Club received $758 to assist with an upgrade of their barefoot skiing course. The club intends to purchase new buoys for the course.
• Dimboola Fire Brigade received $1,000 for audio visual equipment for the CFA station.The equipment will be used in training and presentations for members.
• Dimboola Hockey Club received $1,000 to assist with the replacement of their hockey goal nets.
• Jeparit Bowling Club received $1,000 towards the purchase and installation of a security camera system for the club.
• Jeparit Tennis Club received $1,000 towards the purchase of new tennis court nets.
• Lowan Group CFA, Yanac received $1,000 towards the purchase of portable radio chargers for their vehicles.
• Nhill Basketball Association received $814.95 for the purchase of an iPad, which will allow them to comply with new regulations regarding communication, record keeping, and scoring.
• Nhill Historical Society received $1,000 for a wall hanging system, which will be used to display and exhibit historical photographs and certificates from WW2.
• Nhill Silo Heritage Project received $883.90 for industrial cleaning equipment, which will be used for the initial clean-up of the site.
• Rainbow Fire Brigade received $1,000 to replace the upright freezer at their CFA station.
• Rainbow Historical Society received $1,000 towards the purchase of a new desktop computer for the purposes of record keeping and access to digital archives.
