Hindmarsh To Celebrate NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It’s held each year during the first week of July and is an important annual event where everyone is invited to join in the celebrations. This year, NAIDOC Week is from Sunday 3 July until Sunday 10 July, with them theme of Get up, Stand up, Show up!

Hindmarsh Shire will be celebrating NAIDOC Week across the shire with NAIDOC Week storytime sessions in all libraries, culminating with a FREE showing of the critically acclaimed movie, My Name is Gulpilil.

In his final film, the great Australian actor David Dalaithngu faces his extraordinary, dizzying past and, staring down death, his own, mortal future. Winner of the 2021 AACTA Awards for Best Documentary and Best Editing in a Documentary. WARNING: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers are warned that the following program may contain images and voices of deceased persons.

NAIDOC Week Storytime Sessions
Monday July 3 - Jeparit Library 2pm – 3pm
Wednesday 6 July - Rainbow Library 2pm – 3pm
Thursday 7 July - Nhill Library 10am – 11am
Friday 8 July - Dimboola Library 10am – 11am

My name is Gulpilil will be held at the Nhill Memorial Community Centre from 7:30pm on Friday 8 July. Bookings for all events are not required.
