National Volunteers Week is being celebrated across Australia from Monday 16 May until Sunday 22 May 2022 and the theme for this year is Better Together.

Volunteers help build our community and make it better place for everyone to be. Council recognises and appreciates the tremendous amount of hard work that our volunteers do and the significant role that they play in keeping our community connected and stronger, particularly through difficult times.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Melanie Albrecht said “The definition of volunteering is simply ‘time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain.’ Hindmarsh thrives due to the thousands of volunteer hours, given by all ages, to our communities.”

“These are the parents that umpire, coach and organise the huge variety of sports that our children play. The people that are passionate about history and rebuild old machinery or keep open our historical societies and museums for future generations.”

“It is the people that volunteer to provide transport for others, visit people in our nursing homes or cook BBQs at our many community events. Those committed to supporting the environment.”

“It is the hundreds of people that volunteer their time for all the committees and service clubs that provide Hindmarsh with spectacular events from fishing, racing, music and art.”

“Volunteers are found in every part of Hindmarsh and we want to say a huge thank you.”

To celebrate National Volunteers Week, Hindmarsh Shire Council is hosting complimentary morning and afternoon teas throughout the Shire to thank all of the hard working volunteers in our community for everything that they do.
