Hindmarsh Shire Council has received funding of $500,000 to improve infrastructure and services at the Rainbow Rises Events Centre.

Member for Western Victoria, the Hon Jaala Pulford MLC announced the funding being delivered through the Victorian Government’s Regional Infrastructure Fund - Round 2 on Tuesday 29 March 2022.

In addition to the $500,000 contribution from the Victorian Government, Hindmarsh Shire Council will contribute $125,000 towards infrastructure improvements to the site.

Although there are hugely successful off-road racing events held at the site already, the proposed improvements made through the $625,000 will significantly enhance the reputation of the Rainbow Rises Events Centre.

The proposed infrastructure at the Rainbow Rises Events Centre will provide a positive impact on the planning and implementation of not only off-road motor sport events at the venue, but a range of other opportunities including driver education and training, staging area for emergency services and other motor and non-motor sports etc.

Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Melanie Albrecht said “Hindmarsh Council is extremely grateful for these funds to provide a much needed asset for the Rainbow Rises Event Centre.”

Appropriate and fit for purpose access roads and pathways, facilities and services required for catering, public amenities, spectator viewing areas and the provision of services such as power and water for competitors and their crew, staff, marshals, volunteers and spectators form part of the planned infrastructure improvements.

Permanent infrastructure will include the construction of an appropriately sized shed to enable catering services to be situated in an undercover area with sufficient room for table and chairs.

Additionally, an appropriately sized shed is to be constructed in the pit area and utilised as a multipurpose facility for repairing race vehicles, race and crew briefings and race management etc.

Mr Russell Eckermann, Chairperson of the Rainbow Rises Events Centre Committee said “On behalf of the committee and the residents of Rainbow we are absolutely thrilled to receive notification that the funding application has been successful”.

Russell said “The funding will provide a fantastic boost to the Rainbow community as the Rainbow Rises Events Centre will now be able to be established as a first class facility for not only off-road racing but a range of other events and functions for Rainbow and the broader region”.

“The announcement is very timely as we have a major event this weekend and all our volunteers, competitors and spectators will be thrilled with the news” added Russell.

When not being used for events the catering and pit area sheds will be utilised as storage facilities providing increased on-site security for equipment removing the burden of volunteers transporting and storing equipment at their own properties.

It is proposed that new access roads will be constructed to provide all weather access from Rainbow Rises Road to the proposed new pit and catering areas while the access road for the general public parking area will be upgraded.

Cr Albrecht added “We look forward to attending future events at Rainbow Rises where Hindmarsh can further showcase what we have to offer in this part of the world“.
