Hindmarsh Shire Council is calling for nominations for the 2026 Hindmarsh Australia Day Awards and is encouraging members of the community to nominate persons who have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or over several years, as well as outstanding events that were run within Hindmarsh Shire in 2025.

Each year on Australia Day, Hindmarsh Shire Council presents awards at the Australia Day events held throughout the Shire. The Australia Day Awards recognise outstanding community service to the Hindmarsh Shire community during the current year and/or outstanding service to the community over several years. The Awards are provided by the Australia Day Committee (Victoria) and are administered by Hindmarsh Shire Council.

Council has published new guidelines for the Australia Day Awards that provide additional information about the awards and nomination process. These guidelines can be accessed at www.hindmarsh.vic.gov.au/australia-day-awards.

Nominations are now being called for:

  • 2026 Hindmarsh Shire Citizen of the Year: To be eligible, the person must be 25 years or older on 26 January 2026.
  • 2026 Hindmarsh Shire Young Citizen of the Year: To be eligible, the person must be under 25 years of age on 26 January 2026.
  • 2026 Hindmarsh Shire Community Event of the Year: To be eligible, the event must have occurred within Hindmarsh Shire during January 2025 – December 2025.
  • 2026 Hindmarsh Shire Lifetime Achievement


Members of the community can submit online nominations on Council’s website at www.hindmarsh.vic.gov.au/australia-day. Hard copies of nominations form can be printed from Council’s website and/or can be collected from any Hindmarsh Customer Service Centre and Library.

Nominations close 5:00pm on Friday 5 December 2025.
