Following a period of community and stakeholder engagement, Council has prepared a draft Sport and Recreation Strategy for 2025-2035 which is now available for additional feedback before it is formally adopted for implementation.

The Hindmarsh Shire Council Draft Sport and Recreation Strategy 2025-2035 aims to provide a clear long-term plan to develop and promote sport and recreation within Hindmarsh Shire, with the following priorities at the centre of proposed actions:

  • Increase participation in sport and recreation
  • Support community wellbeing, including mental and physical health
  • Improve facilities and open spaces
  • Provide support for clubs and volunteers
  • Promote equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Foster partnerships and collaboration

It identifies key priorities to improve access to facilities, encourage participation and enhance overall wellbeing of residents.

Hindmarsh Shire Council, Mayor Cr Ron Ismay said “Creating opportunities to be active is at the heart of healthy communities. Council plays a role, working with sporting clubs, health services, and other agencies, to make sure that no matter what type of physical activity you enjoy, there are opportunities that support your health and wellbeing.”

You can view this draft strategy and provide your feedback on the Have Your Say Hindmarsh website: www.haveyoursay.hindmarsh.vic.gov.au/sport-and-recreation-strategy-2025-2035

The feedback from is currently open and will close 12noon on Friday 21 November 2025.
