Hindmarsh Regional Community Events Grants Awarded
Published on 29 September 2025
At the Hindmarsh Shire Council meeting held on Wednesday 24 September 2025, two groups were awarded funding through round one of the 2025/2026 Regional Community Events Grants program to assist with events being held across the Shire.
The aim of this funding is to support community events which celebrate culture, heritage, and community wellbeing, boost the economy and increase visitation to Hindmarsh Shire.
The two local groups successful in applying for Regional Community Event Grants are:
- The Oasis Rainbow, who will receive $4,000 ($3,000 cash and $1,000 in-kind) to support the Rainbow Big Sky Festival in 2026. This one-day event has a full program that features something for everyone, beginning with a market at the Oasis and workshops in the early afternoon, where visitors will be provided a rare opportunity to learn from some of our country’s finest musicians and songwriters. Live music will commence in the afternoon and into the evening until approximately 10pm, featuring a wide variety of world-class musical acts.
- The Nhill Silo Heritage Project will receive $4,000 ($3,000 cash and $1,000 in-kind) to support the Nhill Heritage Weekend being held over 25-26 October 2025. This event will offer a diverse range of attractions and experiences for attendees of all ages and will feature displays of historical artifacts, photographs, and exhibits that tell the story of Nhill's past, offering a fascinating glimpse into the town's heritage. Local shops and volunteers will be encouraged to participate in historical dress to celebrate the event, with visitors encouraged to join in the fun with their own costumes.
Total annual funding of $30,000 has been allocated by Council to the 2025/2026 budget, with grant recipients able to apply for funding of up to $7,500 (made up of cash and in-kind determined by Council) for their event if they meet the eligibility and selection criteria.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay congratulated all applicants and said “Community events play a vital role in bringing people together and attracting visitors to our towns. They strengthen community connections, support local businesses, and provide a great opportunity to showcase the unique character of our Shire to the wider region.”
Cr Ismay continued, “We congratulate both Oasis Rainbow and the Nhill Silo Heritage Project on planning these fantastic events and encourage everyone in the community to attend and show their support.”
A second round of Regional Community Event Grants will open early in 2026.
