Hindmarsh Shire Council September/October School Holiday Program
Published on 14 October 2025
Hindmarsh Shire Council’s School Holiday Program that was held over September and October was a fantastic success, attracting approximately 410 participants across all events.
For outdoor and fishing enthusiasts, the fishing workshops held in Jeparit, Nhill, and Rainbow were the perfect day out, with a few attendees catching a fish or two! Council would like to thank the volunteers from the Jeparit Anglers Club, Nhill CFA, and the Rainbow Lake Committee for running the successful sessions and teaching participants all about fishing. Feedback suggests that fishing gear may be on quite a few Christmas wish lists this year.
Council’s Supported Playgroup Facilitator, Ellen, led a series of crafty jewellery sessions in Jeparit, Rainbow, and Nhill. Attendees created a variety of pieces such as key chains, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and anklets to take home or to gift their loved ones.
The most popular activity over the School Holidays, with an impressive attendance of 134, was ‘The Bad Guys 2’ movie screening at the Nhill Cinema. Another highlight of the school holiday program was the ‘Cooking with Sharon’ sessions, where participants from Nhill, Dimboola, Jeparit and Rainbow had the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and cook their very own delicious breakfast and lunch quesadillas. This activity not only gave everyone the chance to learn new cooking skills but also encouraged creativity and plenty of fun in the kitchen.
The Roller Disco session in Dimboola was an energetic and fun-filled event, with participants of all ages skating and taking to the floor. The lively atmosphere gave everyone the chance to either learn the basics of skating or show off their skills, all while enjoying music and plenty of laughs. A big thank you goes to the passionate Pru from the Wimmera Roller Derby League, who generously volunteered her time to share her love of skating.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said, “Council would like to thank everyone who supported our school holiday program, including volunteers, attendees, parents and guardians who brought their young people along. While this is the last school holiday program for the year, there will still be plenty to do in the coming months. We encourage community members to take advantage of the free pools over the summer months and keep an eye out for the Youth Council’s end of year event.”
The school holidays program was made possible through funding from the Victorian Government’s FReeZa and Engage programs. Thanks to the funding, Council can engage and celebrate young people, giving them opportunities to participate and celebrate their local community.
