Hindmarsh Thanks BlazeAid Volunteers
Published on 05 September 2025
On behalf of the whole Hindmarsh community, particularly those around Nhill and Dimboola who were directly impacted, Hindmarsh Shire Council extends a sincere thank you to BlazeAid for their support, dedication, and investment in the wake of the January Little Desert bushfire.
In late August 2025, BlazeAid notified Hindmarsh Shire Council that after six months of camping at the A and P Society, they were winding up operations in Nhill. During that time, 228 volunteers worked a total of 3,366 days to complete works at 40 properties that registered for assistance. Volunteers cleared 68km of fencing and constructed 94km of new fencing. BlazeAid volunteers shopped locally, supported local businesses and encouraged community connection and participation. In total, they prepared 3,541 meals across the six months.
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay said “The assistance from BlazeAid volunteers has eased the distress in the Hindmarsh community, particularly for farmers, since the bushfire started in the Little Desert National Park in January this year. Their contributions were critical to community recovery, and Hindmarsh Shire Council wishes them well as they continue to work across Australia to support communities like ours after emergency events.”
Hindmarsh Shire Council also extends thanks to the Nhill A and P Society and all community groups and individuals who donated food and time to support BlazeAid over the past six months.
