International Women’s Day Celebrated at Jeparit Riverbank Fiesta
Published on 12 March 2026
Hindmarsh Shire Council, in partnership with the Jeparit Township Advisory Committee, was pleased to host the second International Women’s Day Jeparit Riverbank Fiesta on Saturday 7 March 2026.
Held once again in the picturesque setting of the Jeparit Riverbank Precinct, attendees arrived in time to browse market stalls and grab a bite to eat from the food vendors, before settling onto blankets and camp chairs to enjoy the evening.
Hindmarsh Shire Council’s Deputy Mayor, Cr Rosie Barker opened the event with a rousing speech referencing the ongoing efforts and achievements of women, and encouraging the crowd to support, recognise, and appreciate the women in their lives. Angela Murphy of Allied Justice (formally Ballarat and Grampians Community Legal Service) then gave an informative presentation which touched on this year’s International Women’s Day theme of ‘Balance the Scales’. Angela also discussed the free services that Allied Justice can offer the community relating to family law, family violence, renting and tenancy, and other circumstances.
Following Angela’s presentation, the crowd were treated to the melodic tones of ‘Shannon and the Flipside’, who were excited to return to Jeparit, after a debut performance at last year’s International Women’s Day event. The windy conditions did not stop the crowd from jumping up and grooving to the band, with many on their feet during the first set.
Hindmarsh Shire Youth Councillors Anora, Elora, Lawson, Lisa and Rebecca-May were also involved in the event, helping with set-up and taking the time to hand out merchandise and introduce themselves to attendees throughout the evening.
International Women’s Day is celebrated each year on the 8 March. It is considered a pivotal moment to reflect on progress, call for change and celebrate the courage and determination of those who have changed the face of gender equity.
Hindmarsh Shire Council and the Jeparit Township Advisory Committee would like to thank all who attended and assisted in making the International Women’s Day Jeparit Riverbank Fiesta such a fantastic event.
