Do you want to help preserve and celebrate local and regional history? We are seeking expressions of interest from the community to join the following Community Asset Committees for a 2-year term from July 2026 – June 2028:

  • Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum Community Asset Committee
  • Yurunga Homestead Community Asset Committee

The Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum is a testament to the tenacity, determination and innovation of the region’s farming pioneers, hosting the buildings, machinery, photos and artefacts that show what life was like before modern machines and smart technology.

The Yurunga Homestead in Rainbow is a heritage-listed home built by Mr A.G. Cust in 1909. This huge Edwardian style home offers a glimpse into Mallee life during the early pioneering days of the region.

Community Asset Committees play an important role in looking after local facilities, and in this case ensure that they support tourism, education and the preservation of history. Committees help keep our buildings and spaces clean, safe and well‑maintained, and make sure they’re used in a fair and responsible way. Committees work closely with Council and the community, encourage people to get involved, and help promote the facility so it continues to be well‑used and valued. They also make sure rules, safety requirements and legal obligations are followed.
