Hindmarsh Shire Council is excited to be hosting the highly anticipated Official Opening of the Wimmera River Discovery Trail. Join us at the Antwerp Hall on Sunday 14 September 2025 from 2:30pm for the ceremony followed by short walk along the trail.

What is the Wimmera River Discovery Trail?
The Wimmera River Discovery Trail is a walking and cycling trail linking Dimboola and Jeparit that showcases the Wimmera River and stunning nature between these two towns.

The trail was first proposed over ten years ago and after many years of initial planning, securing State and Federal funding, and working closely with Parks Victoria and Barengi Gadjin Lands Council, the trail is now ready for official opening.

The 56km trail along the Wimmera River corridor has been broken into six sections, so users can complete it in parts or as a whole. More information about the Wimmera River Discovery Trail, including maps, entry points and user guides will be available at the official opening and will be linked to Council’s website from this date.

The Wimmera River Discovery Trail opening will follow the Tourism and Business Forum being held at the Antwerp Hall earlier in the day.

Hindmarsh Shire Council’s Mayor, Cr Ron Ismay, said, “While this project has taken much longer than expected, it’s truly thrilling to see it come to fruition and we welcome this fantastic asset for locals and visitors. We’ll continue to look for opportunities to enhance the trail into the future.”
