At its meeting on Wednesday 1 March 2023, Hindmarsh Shire Council awarded local community organisations grants from the second round of the Community Action Grants program for the 2022/2023 financial year. The Community Action Grants program consists of three categories:

  1. Small Equipment allows community organisations to apply for up to $1,000 for the purchase of items and equipment;
  2. Events allows up to $500 for the running of community events; and
  3. Community Assistance offers up to $1000 for needs not covered in the first two categories.

Council allocated funding to four local community groups totaling $3,500.

Community Assistance recipients included:

  • Rainbow Lake Committee $1,000 to assist with the signage at and around the recently established Rainbow Lake.  The signage proposed is to welcome visitors to the attraction and to make them aware of the rules that the Rainbow Lake Committee would like them to adhere to.

Event Sponsorship recipients included:

  • Wimmera Band Group $500 for their event "Band Sunday" where all bands gather to perform a public concert and to promote themself in the hope of inspiring people to get into music and recruit new members.
  • Nhill-Dimboola Band $1,000 towards the cost of expenses to enable them to continue their regular band activities and spread the joy of listening to brass band music and to attract and teach new members to continue the long-held tradition of brass bands.
  • CWA Nhill Twilight Branch $1,000 to assist with the continuation of upgrades to the CWA building, including the renovation and re-hanging of two notice boards, installation of a corner shelf for a microwave, bi-fold door and shelf in kitchen corner cupboard, and rehanging the pioneer honor board.
