Health and Beauty Premises

Any business in Hindmarsh Shire that provides personal care or body art services, such as beauty therapy, tattooing, skin penetration, or permanent cosmetic makeup, must be registered with Hindmarsh Shire Council under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 (Vic).

These businesses are also required to comply with the Infection Prevention and Control Guidelines for Hair, Beauty, Tattooing and Skin Penetration Industries (2019)These guidelines are designed to:

  • Minimise the risk of disease transmission to clients and staff
  • Ensure safe and hygienic practices across all procedures
  • Support compliance with the Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2019


Hairdressing businesses 
considered low risk, may be eligible for a ‘one off’ registration option.

Under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 (Vic), Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) are authorised to register and inspect health and beauty premises to ensure compliance with public health legislation.
