Hindmarsh Shire Council is currently seeking feedback on the draft Road Management Plan (Plan) 2025-2029.

The purpose of the Road Management Plan is to establish a management system for Council to inspect, maintain, and repair its public roads based on policy and operational objectives having regard to available resources.

Council is required to develop a Road Management Plan under the Road Management Act 2004. The Plan sets clear standards for inspection intervals, response times, and maintenance practices, and ensures that the Council meets its obligations under the Road Management Act 2004 and Road Management (General) Regulations 2016.

The proposed Plan was developed using the template and guidance supplied by the Municipal Association of Victoria with the intention of simplifying the document as well as ensuring consistency across the region. The service levels in this Plan are similar or better than the previous Plan. The updated Plan includes clearly defined footpath hierarchy, clearly defined intervention levels and response times. Inspection frequencies in the new Plan have been increased to provide better road maintenance service.
