Nhill Town Committee Welcomes Community Groups
Published on 08 September 2025
On Tuesday 2 September 2025, Nhill Town Committee warmly welcomed representatives from Nhill and District Sporting Club, Yanac Hockey Club, Nhill Lions and Leos, SES, CFA, Nhill Historical Society, Nhill Visitor Information Centre, WSAA and Rotary – to name a few – to talk about the future of Nhill.
Facilitated by Cr Rosie Barker and chaired by Alison Dahlenburg, the group brainstormed projects and events that they are passionate about. Some of the ideas included:
- New clubrooms and facilities at Davis Park and the Yanac Hockey club
- Community Pantry
- Collaborative community functions
- Nhill Railway Station beautification
- Accessible toilet upgrades at Goldsworthy Park, Jaypex Park, and the Nhill Historical Society
- Expansion of emergency services facilities and youth volunteer opportunities
- Community directory.
The group also talked about volunteer fatigue and how the brilliant volunteers working throughout Nhill are already doing so much. The purpose of coming together is to consider how groups can support each other, ease the load, and work together on shared projects and ideas.
The Nhill Town Committee will be meeting again on 16 September 2025 at 7pm at the Nhill Council Chambers (92 Nelson Street), and delegates from local community groups, schools, churches and trades are encouraged to attend. The meeting will consider the projects listed above as well as the 2025 Nhill Christmas Carols.
Nhill Town Committee Councillor Delegate Cr Rosie Barker said, “This is an exciting opportunity to work together as a community, support each other and make Nhill an even more amazing place to live and visit.”
Hindmarsh Shire Council Mayor and West Ward Councillor, Cr Ron Ismay, said, “as well as Town Committee members and Council staff, the additional 7 attendees represented over 11 volunteer groups in the Nhill and surrounding community. The breadth of volunteer work undertaken by the small number of people in the room demonstrates the incredible efforts put in by local volunteers.”
