The Hindmarsh Shire Council provides community groups and small businesses the opportunity to work collaboratively with Council to make our shire a better place to live and work.

Community Action Grants

Council offers project funding to not-for-profit community groups through our Community Action Grants program. These grants help to support the delivery of projects by the community for the community.

The program has four grant categories available to community groups.

Community Assistance

Council’s financial contributions to small scale projects supports community groups and organisations to focus and utilise their own funds for larger, strategic projects such as, volunteer training, retention and development.

Through the Community Assistance Program, grants of up to $1,000 are available to not-for-profit community groups and organisations to assist with worthwhile projects that do not fit under the Event Sponsorship, Minor Facility Upgrades or Small Equipment categories of the Community Action Grants program.

Event Sponsorship

The Event Sponsorship category of the Community Action Grants Program is designed to assist community organisations to promote:

1. Social connectedness amongst community members within Hindmarsh Shire and

2. The Hindmarsh region as an “Event Destination” for visitors.

Event sponsorship grants offer grants of up to $500 funding to assist with events within Hindmarsh Shire which demonstrate social and economic benefit to the Hindmarsh community.

For larger events with a regional impact, Council may allocate an increased sponsorship amount. To be eligible applications must provide evidence of the event's social and economic impact to the Hindmarsh community.

Minor Facility Upgrades

Under the Minor Facilities Upgrade Program, grants of up to $2,000 are available to not-for-profit community groups and organisation’s to assist with the cost of upgrading community facilities such as, but not limited to:

·         Improving access;

·         Installation of heating and cooling

·         Minor internal and external upgrades

Small Equipment

Small Equipment Grants of up to $1,000 are available to not-for-profit organisations to assist in the cost of purchasing small equipment items. In the past grants have been utilised in the purchase of items such as, but not limited to:

·         Garden equipment and tools;

·         Appliances and whitegoods;

·         Computers and electronic items;

·         Sports equipment.

Business Assistance Grants

The Hindmarsh Shire Council Business Assistance Grants Program was established in 2016 to generate new employment opportunities, support existing businesses to grow and attract new business to Hindmarsh Shire.

The Business Assistance Grants Program is categorised into two key areas:

Business Development

This grant supports the establishment of new and innovative businesses that increase the diversity of the Shire’s business community and provide the potential for local residents to start new businesses

·         Will assist existing small business growth and attract new businesses to the shire

·         Expansion from home business base to commercial premises

·         Relocation of businesses from other Municipalities into Hindmarsh Shire

·         Up-skilling existing employees

·         Small business mentoring

Create / update of business planning documents (business plan, marketing plan and succession plan etc.)

Streetscapes

This grant is open to existing businesses to improve the exterior façade of their building (must have property owner approval)

Includes:

·         Painting, signage, cleaning, removal and replacement of cladding/awnings, repair or replacement of façade structures

·         Access works to reduce entrance barriers

·         Removal of steps

·         Installation of handrails
