Council Committees

Calling for Members - Community Asset Committees

Do you want to help preserve and celebrate local and regional history? We are seeking expressions of interest from the community to join the following Community Asset Committees for a 2-year term from July 2026 - June 2028. In order for these committees to keep operating, they require a minimum of 4 committee members. 

  • Wimmera Mallee Pioneer Museum Community Asset Committee
  • Yurunga Homestead Community Asset Committee

The key roles and functions of Community Asset Committees are to: 

  • Control, manage and maintain the land and facilities in an efficient and effective manner, in the best interests of Council, residents and users of the facilities within the boundaries specified in the Instrument of Delegation.
  • Maintain the highest level of cooperation between the Council, the Committee, and the local community.
  • Promote interest in the facility.
  • Apply procedures, rules and conditions of use necessary for the proper use of the facility.
  • Ensure that these procedures, rules and conditions of use must be consistent with the objectives of the Committee stated in the Instrument of Delegation, these guidelines, and any policies of the Council.
  • Report any breaches of rules, conditions of use and local laws, which cannot appropriately be dealt with by the Committee to the Council.
  • Ensure compliance with all Acts, Regulations, and other legal requirements at the facility.
  • Not commit, or permit to be committed, any act which will have a negative impact on any of the Council’s insurance policies.
  • Ensure the facility is always kept in a clean condition and is used in a reasonable and lawful manner by all groups and individuals.

Applications will close at 5:00pm Friday 22 May 2026. Council will make the final appointments to these Committees at its meeting on Wednesday 3 June 2026.

Advisory Committees


Council has established Advisory Committees to advise Council on issues pertinent to each town or a specific purpose. We work closely with Advisory Committees to educate us on issues facing their communities. They guide us to deliver inclusive services and help develop, implement and monitor our plans and strategies.

Hindmarsh Shire Council currently has seven Advisory Committees:

Audit and Risk Committee

The Audit & Risk committee is an independent advisory committee to Council that meets 3 times per year. The committee is established to assist in the effective conduct of Council’s responsibilities for good governance, the management of risk, financial reporting and maintenance of reliable systems and internal controls in order to facilitate the achievement of its organisational objectives.

External members are appointed to the committee who demonstrate senior business, risk management or financial management / reporting knowledge and have experience in financial and other reporting requirements. External members are paid an honorarium per meeting.

The Audit & Risk Committee operates under section 53 and 54 of the Local Government Act 2020, with the Charter setting out the roles and responsibilities of the committee.

Hindmarsh Pride Committee

The Hindmarsh Pride Committee (formerly called LGBTIQ+ Reference Group) aims to strengthen the voice of the LGBTIQ+ community by providing advice to ensure Council’s broader policy issues and Council Plan and programs reflect the interests of the LGBTQI+ community. The Terms of Reference set out the objectives of the LGBTIQ+ reference group.

The role of the CEO Employment and Remuneration Committee is to make recommendations on contracts, appointments, remuneration, conditions or extensions of appointments relating to the CEO. The committee also conducts the CEO performance review.

Community Asset Committees


Hindmarsh Shire Council has a number of Community Asset Committees established under section 65 of the Local Government Act 2020. Asset Committees manage community halls and facilities. Each Asset Committee has a delegation from the CEO which sets out their roles and responsibilities.
