The shop on this site was built by H. J. Stinchcombe in c1906.  Harry Hamdorf then bought the business in 1909 with George Turvey as the butcher.  “Nugget” Wilson then operated it until 1922, selling it to the “Dinkum Digger” butcher, Herbert S “Maddy” Maddern, and his brother Ray Maddern.

It was then sold to N. E. Laing in 1927. Albert Zanker was the next owner in 1930 who eventually sold it back to “Maddy” in c1932. Renovations were carried out in approx. 1968-70 when the entrance door was changed to the opposite side of the building. “Maddy” and his sons carried on the business (changing the name to H.S. Maddern & Sons in 1970) until 1980. The business was then sold to Arthur Natt who in turn sold it to Zadow Butchers from Rainbow in February 1996.

The business closed in 2001.
