Known locally as “the wine joint” the original building on this site, now demolished, was built in 1912 and run by Harry Brauer. A boarding house which was conveniently located right next door was run by his wife. Numerous later owners were Fred Hollister, Allan Finney, O’Hallorans, Jock Walker, Len Dyer and the Spargo’s.

The license was surrendered in the early 1950’s. A Hopetoun Dry Cleaner, Frank Riley, took over the premises and engaged Harry and Nancy Black to manage the Dry Cleaning Centre, which they operated until 1970.
