Cemetery Road

Return to walk Homepage

The Rifle Club was opened by the Shire President George Hoffmann on the 10th of April, 1915 and it was complete with disappearing targets and a telephone.

The targets were installed at the foot of the west side of the sand hills adjacent to the local tip. The pit and operating mechanism was sunk into the ground. The warning flag pole was on top of the hill. The range extended from the minimum back to an old stable on the Cemetery Road.

There is some evidence that two other ranges were being used outside the town area prior to the first world war. One was at Eaglehurst, on the Rainbow Road, and the other at Alf Menzel’s farm on the Lorquon Road. John Livingston Jnr, a Boar War veteran, was a prominent member at this club.
