A. & J. McIntosh of Nhill built a large general store (Corner of Scott & Roy Streets) and opened it on May 4th 1907. Local money was raised to buy the store from McIntosh’s to form the Co-operative Store in 1924. Frederic (W.F.) Allen was manager from 1929.

Sheds on the corner were used for timber & ironmongery and a small office next to it was used as a branch of Young Bros. with Ern Pearce and later Jack Dickinson as local representatives. Next door was the storeroom with the main shop alongside. The store was rebuilt with local cement bricks in 1929. When Young Bros. withdrew, Noske Bros. took over with Charlie McDonald as the agent.

The Co-operative was later liquidated and Fred & Eva Allen became the owners with their son Kevin taking over in 1952. The store was converted into a Supermarket by Bill Ackland in 1973.
