South of the pound were the sale yards, the sheep section was at the front, complete with a sheep dip. At the back were the cattle yards, built originally for the regular horse sales. It included a parade ring with an elevated auctioneer’s box.

Local early identity Mr Harry Hamdorf predicted that as better roads were constructed, small towns would suffer as people would then travel to larger towns for trade. This became very evident with Jeparit’s sheep sales. Once a strong and sizeable market, but with the construction of good roads, better transport and with more farmers moving into more cropping, the regular spectacle of the local sheep sales soon declined with sales in larger towns taking over.
